LG Scarlet
In the tradition of Chocolate, Secret, and Dios, LG now comes up with the Scarlet – a serious contender in the lucrative flat screen market. The name conjures up images of high class and that's exactly what LG is going for with this TV. It's designed to go toe-to-toe both in style and features against the best out there (quite possibly a fellow Korean).
Here at T3 we've played around with a lot of big screens but thus far the Scarlet garnered the most "whoahs." At about 29 inches tall with a 42-inch screen, it made our PS3 look tiny and our PC monitors look like post cards. Despite its apparent over-sized proportions however, its performance remains spot on and admirable.
A quick round of Metal Gear Solid 4 showcased the full capabilities of the Scarlet. Blacks are excellently rendered (but still nowhere near CRT TV levels). Audio quality is very good. With claims of the audio being specially tuned by Mark Levinson, the speakers are definitely noteworthy. Far be it from home theater quality, it actually is quite good – the best set of built-in speakers from any LCD TV we've tested, with a high threshold for bass and treble even at high volumes.
HD movies are a joy to watch. Colors were rich and there was virtually no motion blurring. However, the same can't be said about upscaled DVDs – especially with something like Back To The Future's fast pans and cutscenes.
Three High Definition Multimedia Input (HDMI) ports are available for all your Hi-Def needs plus a few of the older inputs like composite and S-Video. Do yourself a favor though and forget that the analog ports exist. Watching anything less than DVD quality on a 42-incher just borders on masochism. Elijah Mendoza

LG SCARLET
Did you know?
LG is the result of the merger of two famous Korean brands: Lucky and Goldstar. Lucky was a famous hygiene products manufacturer and Goldstar was a well-known electronics company. Together, they have successfully climbed to the number two spot in the Korean electronics market – not a bad feat especially considering how tight the competition is in Samsungland.
