The right gear
Compared to all the Apple video viewing-capable portables, the Philips GoGear is, a ridiculously great audio and video handy at a ridiculously cheaper price. But there's a catch when you're asking for a smaller wad of cash.
With the GoGear, it's the relatively smaller video screen size (2.4 inches). And, particularly for the 2GB, the GoGear tends to dwell on the reading time bit, especially when almost filled to capacity. Also, the screen is difficult to view against sunlight and scratches easily. Other than those mishaps, everything about the GoGear is a hoot.
The GoGear plays MP3 and WMA, video. It can connect you to your favorite FM station, record your honey's incessant nagging, view Facebook pictures—JPEGs only though-- and Word documents. It also boasts of 20 hours of music playing time and four hours of video.
But what matters with most portables is its portability, and in that aspect the GoGear is up there with the slimmest of players. It can fit any jeans pocket, we kid you not. All that's left now is--if you're an Mac fanboy—is to buy a PC so you can use its drag and drop file moving convenience. B.A. Borleo
