Canon Powershot S5 IS
Images from the S5's 12x lens are little short of astounding: stuffed full of exceptional levels of detail and punchy contrast. The beefed-up zoom is responsive and controls are generally easy on the digits, even if there are more buttons than is exceptable in polite society.
The only problem we have is that someone in the Canon camp clearly has a vendetta against this camera – it's been carelessly dropped from the ugly tree and taken a cruelly disfiguring beating on the way down.
We shouldn't be so shallow about such an impressive high-zoom bargain. So instead of sniggering at its unfortunate appearance, we'll concentrate on its inner, high-spec beauty.
